Break the Mold this Summer

It is summertime in Richmond and we are certainly feeling the heat! Often times, heat is accompanied by humidity. This can mean bad news for your bathroom, since mold and mildew tend to thrive in humid environments. Mold and mildew can be extremely harmful to your health. Luckily, there are certain steps you can take to prevent and control mold growth in your bathrooms.

It's Not the Heat, It's the Humidity
Since high humidity is the number one cause of mold growth, try to reduce the humidity in your bathroom as much as possible. The key to minimizing humidity in your en suite is ventilation. After taking a shower, turn on the bathroom fan and open the window. This will help get rid of the moisture and humidity in the air.

Keep The Powder Room Squeaky Clean
In addition to humidity, mold and mildew flourish in uncleanly places. Soap scum creates the perfect conditions for mold and mildew to prosper. In the summertime, it is important to clean your tub and shower with a squeegee after usage. A thorough weekly cleaning should do the trick. If you are not keen on using chemicals in your bathroom, you can use a simple solution of mild white vinegar to get rid of mold. In this case, "going green" can prevent green mold from growing! At Re-Bath of Richmond, we are always looking for ways to keep your bathroom sparkling all year round.
