Tips to Prevent Pipes From Freezing

The official start to winter will be here before you know it. Homeowners across the country are bracing themselves for the chilly nights ahead. The real question is--have they prepared their pipes for the winter? If not, they are at an increased risk for frozen pipes.

To some, frozen pipes do not seem like a big deal. This is probably due to the fact that they have never experienced it before. Or, they just don't know that a repair could cost thousands.

When water freezes, it expands. The pressure from this expansion can make a pipe burst. A broken pipe means water damage in your home. Below are some tips to help you prevent your pipes from freezing this winter.
  • Insulate your pipes with foam insulation sleeves.
  • Seal all cracks in your pipes with caulking or spray foam insulation.
  • If you are going away this winter, shut off your water and drain all of the pipes before you depart.
At Re-Bath of Richmond, we are always looking for new ways to inform our loyal customers about their bathrooms. Certainly, the tips above will reduce the risk of encountering frozen pipes this winter. Best of all, these simple tips could save you from a plumbing disaster.
