Why Convert Your Bathtub to a Shower?

The difference between a shower or a bathtub might not mean much to some people but according to a Home Design Trends survey, more than 60 percent of homeowners preferred a shower over a bathtub. Thinking about converting your bathtub to a shower? Keep these things in mind:

  1. Safety: Getting in and out of showers are much easier to do. With the high sides on a bathtub, you risk the chance of slipping and getting hurt.
  2. Appearance: Bathtub to shower conversions open up your bathroom. Walk-in showers can make your bathroom look larger because the shower base seems to take up less space. The variety of door options can also help give off the illusion of space.
  3. Easy to clean: It is much easier to clean a shower stall than it is to clean a bathtub, especially if time is not on your side. Showers also provide you with more space to move around so getting to those little nooks and crannies will be a breeze!
  4. Style: Going for a more modern look? Showers tend to do just that! With hundreds of styles to choose from, there’s something for everybody. Not to mention the remodel will likely pay off when you are looking to sell your home in the future. (TIP: If you are looking to sell your home, real estate agents are adamant that to preserve marketability, converting a bathtub to shower will only pay off if you have at least one other bathroom with a bathtub.)

6 Bathroom Cleaning Hacks We're Loving Right Now

Is there anybody out there who actually enjoys cleaning the bathroom? Sure, most of us can appreciate a clean bathroom, but we’re talking about the actual process of scrubbing away dirt and grime. Well, if you fall into the “I despise cleaning” category we’ve got some hacks for you that will make your life much easier.

  1. Looking for a way to keep your lotions and hair care products organized? Add spice racks to the wall to keep them tidy.
  2. Have stubborn lime stains in the bathtub or shower pan? Use a pumice stone to scrub them away.
  3. Clean the shower head by soaking it in a plastic bag filled with distilled vinegar. This will help wash away mineral buildup.
  4. Don’t have enough elbow grease for a deep cleaning? Attach a sponge or a soft brush to a power drill.
  5. Ditch the Windex and fire up a cup of warm black tea. Why, you ask? Black tea works wonders at cleaning mirrors.
  6. Put down the chemicals and create your own toilet cleaner instead. Mix vinegar and baking soda in the bowl and scrub clean with a toilet brush.

Now that you’ll spend less time cleaning, you can spend more time enjoying the rest of your day. Feel free to share these tips with your friends!

Re-Bath of Richmond is your one-stop bathroom remodeling solution. From tub and shower areas to vanity, floor and mirror we design and install it all!

Safe Alternatives To Harmful Bathroom Sprays

Did you know that most commercial bathroom sprays and air fresheners contain chemicals that can be detrimental to your health? Let’s face it, we’ve all been in a situation where the bathroom didn’t smell like spring roses and it can be quite embarrassing at times. But there’s no need to worry - about that smell or about your health - because with a DIY recipe, you’ll be able to get rid of that foul odor fast!

Put a Few Dabs on the Roll
The first safer alternative to toxic bathroom sprays involves choosing your favorite essential oil. All you need to do is put a few droplets of the oil on the inside of the toilet paper roll and the scent will release into the air as you pull sheets of paper. It’s that simple!

DIY Poo Pourri
The second option is to create your own Poo Pourri spray. Again, the process is extremely simple and will have your bathroom smelling fresh for hours. Follow the steps below:
  1. Find a small spray bottle. You can purchase one anywhere toiletries are sold or you can use an old hairspray bottle.
  2. Use distilled or bottled water as the base of your spray. Tap water will work too, except it may have traces of other minerals that could alter the scent.
  3. Mix in a bit of rubbing alcohol or witch hazel. This will will the water and oils mix better.
  4. Use 100% natural Essential oils. Find your favorite scent and add a few drops to the mixture. You may find that you want to add more for a stronger scent.
  5. Spray the bowl before using.

3 Reasons To Choose Low-Flow Bath Fixtures

Did you know that the average family uses roughly 400 gallons of water per day? Astonishing, right? Well, did you know that you can cut back drastically on the amount of water you use by swapping out your old bathroom fixtures with low-flow options?

Shower Heads
Ever wonder how much water you use while you take a shower? Older, more inefficient shower heads can push through more than 5 gallons of water per minute. Think about how much time you spend in the shower each day. Eco friendly fixtures can use up to 30% less water without sacrificing performance.

Faucets
When it comes to bathroom faucets we understand that performance is key. Worried that you won’t be able to find a style and design that meets your taste? Don’t be. There’s an eco friendly option out there for everyone that will look spectacular in your bathroom while using 32% less water or more!

Toilets
Homeowners often worry when it comes to the thought of a low-flow toilet. Sure, it will save some water but will it still have enough flushing power to properly dispose of waste? You better believe it! Since gravity can only do so much, pressurized air was introduced to toilets to push water into and through the bowl more forcefully. Trust us when we say there’s no need to worry.

Bathroom remodeling can be a stressful and expensive process, especially if you try to do it yourself. You need a company that you can trust to convert your old, dingy bathroom into something that you will be proud to use. That's where we come in. Contact the experts at Re-Bath of Richmond today!

Inadequate Bathroom Ventilation Could Be Making You Sick

Do you have an exhaust fan in your bathroom? Do you run it each time you take a bath or a shower? Do you let it run for at least 10-15 minutes after you’ve finished bathing? If you answered “no” to any of these questions, your health could be at risk. Why? Find out below:

Ever wonder what those little black spots are on your ceiling or in the actual shower or tub? Chances are it’s mold. Mold thrives in warm, humid climates and you guessed it - your bathroom is the perfect breeding ground.

What’s so bad about mold? Mold and mildew can cause throat irritation, coughing or wheezing, eye irritation or even respiratory issues for those who are more sensitive. Suffer from asthma? Then you definitely want to keep your home mold-free.

How can keep mold from growing in the bathroom? Running your bathroom’s exhaust fan is a MUST! This device helps to remove excess moisture from the air making it more difficult for mold to grow. We recommend starting up the fan as soon as you get into the bathroom and leave it running for 10-15 minutes following your bath or shower.

Don’t have a fan in the bathroom? Don’t worry, that’s where we come in. Re-Bath of Richmond has the knowledge and expertise to help you choose the perfect exhaust fan for your bathroom and we’ll take care of the entire installation process. Call us today at 804-591-1621 for more information!

Shower Doors vs. Shower Curtains

Glass shower doors or waterproof fabric, that is the question. Homeowners often find themselves faced with this dilemma when it comes to the shower area and let’s be honest, there’s a bunch of benefits to both options. So, which is the right choice for your bathroom? We’re going to lay out some of the pros and cons below:

Glass Shower Doors
If very little maintenance and a clean, contemporary look is what you’re going for glass shower doors are the perfect choice. They’re relatively easy to clean - a little warm water and vinegar goes a long way - and they can transform the entire look and feel of your bathroom.

A full shower enclosure also eliminates the risk of water escaping and making the floor slippery and it’s a wonderful way to utilize tricky or oddly-shaped spaces.

Shower Curtains
On the other hand, a fabric shower curtain can add personality and flair in a bathroom that might be lacking these characteristics otherwise. They do require a bit more maintenance - you’ll have to throw them in with a load of laundry every so often - but the variety of shapes, patterns and colors are just about endless.

If it’s more space you’re looking for, curved shower curtain rods are available which will give you a bit more space to lather up and clean off.

Both options can take your bathroom to the next level and after all, you spend lots of time in this room of the house so why not spruce it up a little?
