4 DIY Bath Towel Storage Ideas

Wouldn't you love to have a bigger bathroom without the large price tag that comes along with a full renovation? Well, it’s quite possible. Let’s start by getting your bathroom organized and getting rid of clutter. You’ll be amazed and how much extra space you’ll have.

Getting the bathroom organized starts with storage. Sure, you might have a cabinet or a drawer already in place, but is that enough? If your bathroom still feels cluttered than the answer is most definitely, no. It’s time to come up with a few clever storage solutions that you can build yourself - most of them are quick and simple:
  • Hang baskets on the wall. All you need is a couple of screws, a screwdriver and some wire baskets. They’ll be perfect for storing towels and toilet paper.
  • Hang a few towel racks. It’s common to see a towel rack in a bathroom, but why stop at just one? Hanging a few on the back of the door is an excellent way to store more than one towel. Plus, they’ll look better back there than stuffed into a corner or placed on top of the counter.
  • Don’t throw out that old wine rack. Roll your towels instead of folding them flat and place them on a wine rack. Not only can you store a bunch of towels at once, it’ll add a bit artistic creativity to your bathroom.
  • Not into the towel rack or wine rack ideas? Hang a few antique door knobs on the wall. They act like hooks but add more character.

We realize you have many choices when it comes to remodeling your bathroom. We appreciate that hiring a contractor can be challenging and not a decision you want to make in haste. Re-Bath of Richmond wants to be your bathroom remodeler. Call us today at 804-591-1621 to find out how we can help!

4 Easy DIY Bathroom Projects

Not all bathroom projects have to cost and arm and a leg. In fact, there are lots of ways to spruce up a boring bath without spending much money at all. And what’s even better is that most of these projects don’t require hiring a professional - you can do it yourself! So, if your boring bathroom could use a little tender loving care, try a few of the crafts below:

  1. Add Shelving: not enough space to store your towels or toiletries? There’s a simple solution - add shelving! With a few pieces of plywood, some paint and a drill you’ll be able to keep your things organized for just a few dollars. Pro Tip: adding corner shelving is an excellent way to make use of otherwise unused space.
  2. Add Seating: have a large bathroom where you need to fill some empty space? Add a bench or seating to give it more of a spa-like ambiance. You can build it yourself out of reclaimed wood or head over to the local thrift store.
  3. Paint the Vanity: a little bit of color goes a long way. If you’re tired of looking at the same boring colors every day, grab a can of paint and a brush and get going on the vanity. Use colors such as green or red if you’re feeling bold.
  4. Swap Out the Shower Curtain: feeling cramped in the shower? No, you don’t need to replace the entire shower you can simply add a curved shower rod instead of the straight bar you’re using now. We also recommend replacing the old curtain with updated fabric. Go for a nautical theme or exquisite patterns to create a focal point.

Why Is Paint Peeling In The Bathroom?

Notice that the paint is peeling on your bathroom walls or ceiling? Sure, it may look like an eyesore but there’s more bad news - it could indicate that the surface is decaying. What causes paint to peel? How can you prevent it from happening and make sure no more damage is done? Find out below:

What Causes Paint To Peel?
Peeling paint is common in areas of the home that are subject to high moisture levels - such as the kitchen and the bathroom. As moisture gets between the layer of paint and surface underneath, it can cause a peeling effect.

How To Prevent Walls or Ceilings From Peeling
It’s vital to stop peeling in its tracks before the problem gets any worse. To do so, remove peeling paint by using a scraper and then sand the area to smooth the transition between the layer of paint and the surface underneath.

Then you’ll want to seal the area to prevent damage or further peeling in the future. We recommend using a stain-blocking primer specifically made for high moisture areas. Allow it to dry completely before adding a fresh layer of paint.

Finally, have a ventilation fan installed. This will help remove excess moisture from the air all year ‘round.

Pro Tips For Tackling A Dirty Bathroom

Every time you use the restroom in a hotel or see a marvelous bathroom on TV, there’s not a speck of dust or dirt to be found, right? You may be wondering how they keep them so clean - is it even possible that anyone puts those lavatories to use? Well, the answer is yes and we’re going to let you in on a little secret: you can keep yours just as clean with a few simple steps!

  • Break Out The Vacuum: if you can’t remember the last time you vacuumed your bathroom, chances are it’s time! Vacuuming and dusting once a week is the key to spotless floors, tiles, mirrors and countertops. Not to mention, keep light fixtures clean can help certain features of the room shine! It only takes a few minutes, but it makes a world of difference!

  • Heat It Up: believe it or not, heating up the surface you are cleaning can actually increase the effectiveness of the cleaner. We recommend filling your tub and sink with hot water before scrubbing.

  • Let It Sit: if you’re in a rush and find yourself spraying your favorite cleaner in the bowl or on the walls of the shower and wiping it up right away, you’re probably unhappy with the results, right? Most cleaning solutions take time to work. We recommend spraying the surface and letting it sit for five to seven minutes before scrubbing. This will also give disinfectants enough time to do their job.

Find Out Why The Right Bathroom Lighting Is Key

For years, you’ve been dealing with inadequate lighting in the bathroom. There’s not enough to light up your face while you apply your makeup and there certainly isn’t any lighting to create a feeling of relaxation. Well, the day has come where you’ve decided to make some much needed changes and we’re going to point you in the right direction when it comes to functional bathroom lighting.

We’re going to focus on the main areas of the bathroom where the right fixtures and bulbs are key. Remember, you’re going to want functional lighting that’s also visually appealing so keep the following in mind:

The Vanity: this is the area of the bathroom where you spend lots of time putting on makeup, shaving or fixing your hair. A single fixture will not cut it here, you’ll want to make sure you have at least two wall-mounted fixtures on either side of the mirror that creates cross illumination.

The Tub: take pride in your bathtub by showing it off under a beautiful chandelier. This type of fixture will give you the accent lighting you need to dress up the space and offer a warm glow.

The Shower: the same idea that applies to the tub applies here as well. You’ve invested in gorgeous glass shower doors, now it’s time to make it feel like the spa-like retreat you’ve always dreamt of. However, it’s important to keep in mind that a chandelier probably isn’t your best option here.

Still unsure about the best type of lighting to make your bathroom shine? That’s where we come in. The bathroom remodeling experts at Re-Bath of Richmond are here to help! Give us a call today at 804-591-1621.

6 Bathroom Cleaning Hacks We're Loving Right Now

Is there anybody out there who actually enjoys cleaning the bathroom? Sure, most of us can appreciate a clean bathroom, but we’re talking about the actual process of scrubbing away dirt and grime. Well, if you fall into the “I despise cleaning” category we’ve got some hacks for you that will make your life much easier.

  1. Looking for a way to keep your lotions and hair care products organized? Add spice racks to the wall to keep them tidy.
  2. Have stubborn lime stains in the bathtub or shower pan? Use a pumice stone to scrub them away.
  3. Clean the shower head by soaking it in a plastic bag filled with distilled vinegar. This will help wash away mineral buildup.
  4. Don’t have enough elbow grease for a deep cleaning? Attach a sponge or a soft brush to a power drill.
  5. Ditch the Windex and fire up a cup of warm black tea. Why, you ask? Black tea works wonders at cleaning mirrors.
  6. Put down the chemicals and create your own toilet cleaner instead. Mix vinegar and baking soda in the bowl and scrub clean with a toilet brush.

Now that you’ll spend less time cleaning, you can spend more time enjoying the rest of your day. Feel free to share these tips with your friends!

Re-Bath of Richmond is your one-stop bathroom remodeling solution. From tub and shower areas to vanity, floor and mirror we design and install it all!

Safe Alternatives To Harmful Bathroom Sprays

Did you know that most commercial bathroom sprays and air fresheners contain chemicals that can be detrimental to your health? Let’s face it, we’ve all been in a situation where the bathroom didn’t smell like spring roses and it can be quite embarrassing at times. But there’s no need to worry - about that smell or about your health - because with a DIY recipe, you’ll be able to get rid of that foul odor fast!

Put a Few Dabs on the Roll
The first safer alternative to toxic bathroom sprays involves choosing your favorite essential oil. All you need to do is put a few droplets of the oil on the inside of the toilet paper roll and the scent will release into the air as you pull sheets of paper. It’s that simple!

DIY Poo Pourri
The second option is to create your own Poo Pourri spray. Again, the process is extremely simple and will have your bathroom smelling fresh for hours. Follow the steps below:
  1. Find a small spray bottle. You can purchase one anywhere toiletries are sold or you can use an old hairspray bottle.
  2. Use distilled or bottled water as the base of your spray. Tap water will work too, except it may have traces of other minerals that could alter the scent.
  3. Mix in a bit of rubbing alcohol or witch hazel. This will will the water and oils mix better.
  4. Use 100% natural Essential oils. Find your favorite scent and add a few drops to the mixture. You may find that you want to add more for a stronger scent.
  5. Spray the bowl before using.

3 Reasons To Choose Low-Flow Bath Fixtures

Did you know that the average family uses roughly 400 gallons of water per day? Astonishing, right? Well, did you know that you can cut back drastically on the amount of water you use by swapping out your old bathroom fixtures with low-flow options?

Shower Heads
Ever wonder how much water you use while you take a shower? Older, more inefficient shower heads can push through more than 5 gallons of water per minute. Think about how much time you spend in the shower each day. Eco friendly fixtures can use up to 30% less water without sacrificing performance.

Faucets
When it comes to bathroom faucets we understand that performance is key. Worried that you won’t be able to find a style and design that meets your taste? Don’t be. There’s an eco friendly option out there for everyone that will look spectacular in your bathroom while using 32% less water or more!

Toilets
Homeowners often worry when it comes to the thought of a low-flow toilet. Sure, it will save some water but will it still have enough flushing power to properly dispose of waste? You better believe it! Since gravity can only do so much, pressurized air was introduced to toilets to push water into and through the bowl more forcefully. Trust us when we say there’s no need to worry.

Bathroom remodeling can be a stressful and expensive process, especially if you try to do it yourself. You need a company that you can trust to convert your old, dingy bathroom into something that you will be proud to use. That's where we come in. Contact the experts at Re-Bath of Richmond today!

Inadequate Bathroom Ventilation Could Be Making You Sick

Do you have an exhaust fan in your bathroom? Do you run it each time you take a bath or a shower? Do you let it run for at least 10-15 minutes after you’ve finished bathing? If you answered “no” to any of these questions, your health could be at risk. Why? Find out below:

Ever wonder what those little black spots are on your ceiling or in the actual shower or tub? Chances are it’s mold. Mold thrives in warm, humid climates and you guessed it - your bathroom is the perfect breeding ground.

What’s so bad about mold? Mold and mildew can cause throat irritation, coughing or wheezing, eye irritation or even respiratory issues for those who are more sensitive. Suffer from asthma? Then you definitely want to keep your home mold-free.

How can keep mold from growing in the bathroom? Running your bathroom’s exhaust fan is a MUST! This device helps to remove excess moisture from the air making it more difficult for mold to grow. We recommend starting up the fan as soon as you get into the bathroom and leave it running for 10-15 minutes following your bath or shower.

Don’t have a fan in the bathroom? Don’t worry, that’s where we come in. Re-Bath of Richmond has the knowledge and expertise to help you choose the perfect exhaust fan for your bathroom and we’ll take care of the entire installation process. Call us today at 804-591-1621 for more information!

Shower Doors vs. Shower Curtains

Glass shower doors or waterproof fabric, that is the question. Homeowners often find themselves faced with this dilemma when it comes to the shower area and let’s be honest, there’s a bunch of benefits to both options. So, which is the right choice for your bathroom? We’re going to lay out some of the pros and cons below:

Glass Shower Doors
If very little maintenance and a clean, contemporary look is what you’re going for glass shower doors are the perfect choice. They’re relatively easy to clean - a little warm water and vinegar goes a long way - and they can transform the entire look and feel of your bathroom.

A full shower enclosure also eliminates the risk of water escaping and making the floor slippery and it’s a wonderful way to utilize tricky or oddly-shaped spaces.

Shower Curtains
On the other hand, a fabric shower curtain can add personality and flair in a bathroom that might be lacking these characteristics otherwise. They do require a bit more maintenance - you’ll have to throw them in with a load of laundry every so often - but the variety of shapes, patterns and colors are just about endless.

If it’s more space you’re looking for, curved shower curtain rods are available which will give you a bit more space to lather up and clean off.

Both options can take your bathroom to the next level and after all, you spend lots of time in this room of the house so why not spruce it up a little?

Still can’t decide? Call on the bathroom remodeling experts at Re-Bath of Richmond today. Our friendly staff is waiting to hear from you and will be more than happy to help out with your project.

Decorate Your Bathroom in 7 Simple Steps

Unless you’re constantly changing the hand towels, switching up the pictures on the wall or updating the fixtures chances are your bathroom could use a little refresher. Take our word for it when we tell you that even something as simple as a decorative organza bag can bring your bathroom the flair and decor that it’s missing. Read below to find out how you can create your own in 7 simple steps below:

For this project, you’re going to need to a few items. We recommend starting out with a 6 inch organza gift bag, a pencil, rosemary, lavender, chamomile, an embroidery needle and some herbs and spices.

Now follow these steps:
  1. Draw the position of the stems for the rosemary and lavender and draw the pattern of your choice.
  2. Slip the pattern into the bad and trace it with the pencil.
  3. For the rosemary pattern, thread a strand each of cotton beige, light fern green and avocado green threads (three strands in all) and embroider the stems with long stitches on top of the pencil line, moving backwards to fix each stitch.
For the leaves, thread two strands of light fern green and four of avocado green (six strands in total) and sew a series of stitches forwards to form a downward angle on each side of the stem.
  4. To make the lavender design, thread two strands of fern green cotton and embroider the stems, using two or three long stitches on top of the pencil line, moving backwards to fix each stitch. Then thread two strands of each color (six strands in all) and sew flowers with small forward stitches on each side of the stems, following your drawing.
  5. For the chamomile bag, carefully arrange the buttons on the front of the bag and mark their position with a pencil, without pressing hard. Using two white threads, embroider daisies around these marks, leaving room in the center to place the buttons.
  6. Now that you’ve got the majority of the work completed, sew a button in the center of each flower.
  7. Fill the bags and pull the cords, just remember not to overfill.

Voila! You’ve just created your very own bathroom decorations! Web source: http://www.yellowpages.ca/tips/make-a-decorative-bathroom-bag-in-7-easy-steps/

5 Hot Bathroom Flooring Trends

You’re ready to remodel your old bathroom and you’ve got the sink, the toilet and the rest of the fixtures picked out. But have you taken any time to think about the floor? Bathroom floors are a major part of the renovation project but are often overlooked. So before you make all final decisions, consider these 5 hot bathroom flooring trends:

  1. Ceramic Tile: if you’re looking for a flooring option that will stand up to water and humidity and last for years to come, ceramic tile is the choice for you. Not only is it visually appealing, it won’t go out of style and if for any reason a tile should crack or break, replacing it shouldn’t be an issue. With lots of color and design options, there’s a style for everybody.
  2. Heated Floors: hate waking up to cold feet? Heated tile floors will become your new best friend. And prices have come down over the last couple of years so don’t hesitate to look into the heating options.
  3. Wood-Looking Tile: you may have been to a friend or family member’s house and noticed what looked like wood floors in their bathroom. While it could have actually been real wood, chances are it was tile that looks like wood. This new trend requires very little maintenance and is virtually unscratchable.
  4. Clean Look: if you like look of a pristine bathroom, you can’t go wrong with white tile. Subway patterns have been a hit this year and has been for a few years now.
  5. Customize Your Oasis: you spend lots of time in the bathroom each day, whether you realize it or not, so why not make it your own? Don’t be afraid to experiment with unique designs, arrangements, and surfaces. You can even mix and match if you’re feeling extra creative!
